Virginia Asian Foundation Brings Progress to Regions
VACC Northern Virginia Office leadership joined the Community Foundation of Northern Virginia together with anchor institutions, small businesses, trade associations, nonprofits, and government representatives to gauge interest in and discuss the establishment of a Northern Virginia Anchor Collaborative.
With the support of a grant from Kaiser Permanente, the Community Foundation worked with these anchor institutions to launch the collaboration and begin implementing a community wealth-building strategy in our region.
Between 2021 and 2022, we assisted the City of Alexandria and the NOVA Transportaion Authority with their DBE goals setting planning.
Together with several regional leaders, the Virginia Asian Foundation works hard to help Northern Virginia expand economic prosperity to all through the Community Wealth Building program.
Impact: From Economic Transformation
to Regional Democratization in Higher Education
From this project, Virginia Asian Foundation became a Major Sponsor of George Mason University’s Regional Democratization Conference.
VACC Executive Director My Lan Tran, representing Virginia Asian Foundation, spoke on the topic of regional economic development and diversity and inclusion at several day-long panels at the standing-room-only conference at GMU in 2023.
Thanks to our support, the conference serves as a kickoff event to be included as part of a permanent research based Social Sciences undergraduate level class at GMU.
Today, VACC and VAF leadership is now playing a key decision-making role at the GMU’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology’s Council of the “Next System Studies”, a major research project of the Center for Social Science Research at George Mason University.
Our Work is Impacting Lives Through Partnerships
In 2022, ACC Executive Director My Lan Tran, representing Virginia Asian Foundation, spoke on the topic of mental health at workgroups discussing this critical issue in major localities in Northern Virginia (Fairfax), Central Virginia (Richmond City and Henrico County), and the Hampton Roads (Suffolk).
These important break-through events are normally attended by 200 medical professionals, health leaders, regional government leaders, diverse health practitioners, and social scientists.
