Honorary Speaker: Lt Governor Bill Bolling

Mr. Paul Grossman of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership will address the current FDI (Foreign direct Investment) trends from Asia to Virginia in the past five years and how these trends are impacting Virginia’s economy.

 

Dr. Qian Cai of the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service will present an update on the results of the newly released American Community Survey data for Virginia communities and the implication of  the skills and abilities the new workforce is bringing to the Virginia workplace  in every sector of the economy.

 

Dr. Van Wood of VCU School of Business will offer perspective on how a new global workforce caused by continuous migration will mean in terms of what skills are needed of today workforce and what need to be taught in schools.

 

Three attorneys: Lakshmi Challa of Challa Law Offices, Nash Fayad of Fayad & Associates, and Neil Telegaonkar of Thompson & McMullan P.C. will each address a topic of their expertise centering around business immigration laws and processes and the economic impact on selected local economy.

 

  Event Background

 

Virginia being one of the largest host US states receiving Foreign Direct Investment from Asia. How will an increased Asian immigrant population affect the global Virginia economy?

Immigration being a major focus for Americans, and Virginia being eager to attract foreign firms from Asia - among other attractive international investing markets -  what are the effects of immigration on immigration and employment laws, and on the future of the state ‘s economy?

 

Event Objective

 

The objective of the Summit is to explore positive contributions immigration is making to strengthen and diversify the Virginia economy.

 

Event Audience

 

Come to the Summit to learn about the fascinating relationship between immigration and economic growth in terms of trade and Investment and the critical role workforce skills development has on the newer demographic changes as revealed by the latest Census’ American Community Survey data.

 

The Summit serves to educate academia, students, research economists, business community, and workforce development professionals; economic development professionals, public policy analysts, legislators, real estate developers, bankers, accountants, and anyone interested in learning about immigration, demographic changes, and economic development.
